Enhance your Glacier Bay tour experience by incorporating the additional tours and activities into your Glacier Bay Lodge package. While in Gustavus, the gateway to the renowned Glacier Bay National Park, seize the opportunity to immerse yourself in the scenic surroundings. Our most popular activity is the whale watching cruise to Point Adolphus and the kayaking day tour into Muir and Tarr Inlet. Glacier Bay National Park was completely covered by ice just 200 years ago. The “Y” shaped body of Glacier Bay in south-east Alaska is a designated World Heritage Site and includes 16 huge tidewater glaciers - with 12 of them are active and calve icebergs thundering into the bay. On the east and west of the 65 mile long bay the steep mountain summits of the Chilkat and Fairweather Mountain Ranges rise up to provide a dramatic backdrop. The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve includes tidewater glaciers, snow- capped mountain ranges, ocean coastlines, deep fjords, and freshwater rivers. While Gustavus is not as well-known as some other Alaskan destinations, it's a beautiful and serene place, and ranger walks in Gustavus usually take place within the context of Glacier Bay National Park. They are often conducted by National Park Service rangers as part of their educational / interpretive programs and are complimentary. The rangers are knowledgeable about the park's geology, ecology, wildlife, and history. During your stay you can visit the Glacier Bay National Park Visitor Center and the Xunaa Shuká Hít (Huna Tribal House). Please note that the excursions can only be booked in combination with our travel packages.
